Automatic calculation of Relative Survival (RS) can be performed through WAERS. Relative survival (RS) can be interpreted as the proportion of patients alive after T years of follow-up in the hypothetical situation that cancer is the only possible cause of death. RS is estimated as the ratio between observed survival and expected survival. Expected survival is estimated on the basis of the geographical area to which patients belong.
A tab-separated text file has to be provided with the following columns :
1. Patient ID (internal code freely defined by the user)
2. Age at beginning of study
3. Sex (1:Male , 2 Female)
4. Time of follow-up (years)
5. Death (0: No, 1: Yes)
6. Year at beginning of study
Mortality from different areas of Spain (provinces, autonomous communities and whole Spain ) are available to use as reference for relative survival. Future improvements of this application will include mortality tables of Latin American and European Union countries, and stratified (control variable) analysis. W e are working on improvements of this version.
The file should be in ASCII format, including the following variables:
1 87.00 1 0.08 1 1992
2 70.00 1 10.3 0 1993
3 75.00 1 9.83 0 1991
4 84.00 1 2.67 1 1992
5 85.00 2 5.08 1 1983
6 79.00 2 9.17 0 1988
7 74.00 2 2.58 1 1992
